Job DescriptionAre you passionate about public policy and eager to see how the legislative process impacts real people? Join the Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) team at DHHS as a Medicaid Policy Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience with state-level policy making, particularly related to Nebraska Medicaid.
As an intern, you’ll observe how legislation is developed and passed during the legislative session and contribute to implementing newly passed laws during the interim. You’ll work alongside policy experts, legal analysts, and program specialists to support Nebraska’s Medicaid programs and improve services for vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities- Observe legislative hearings, floor debate, and committee meetings related to health and human services.
- Assist with bill tracking, summarizing legislation, and compiling background information.
- Support the policy team in planning and implementing new or revised Medicaid policy initiatives based on passed legislation.
- Conduct research and analysis to support decision-making and policy updates.
- Assist in preparing briefing materials, presentations, and internal communications.
- Participate in meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).
Preferred Qualifications- Related coursework in public policy, political science, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Interest in legislative processes and public health policy.
- Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
- Familiarity with Nebraska state government is a plus but not required.
- Firsthand exposure to the legislative process and Medicaid policy development.
- Mentorship from experienced professionals in public service.
- Opportunities to network with policymakers, state staff, and advocacy groups.
- Practical skills in policy analysis, research, and implementation strategy.
