The Mayor’s Office of Appointments (MOA) is responsible for helping the Mayor in identifying and selecting candidates to serve as commissioners and other senior-level roles, as well as individuals to serve on more than 200 boards and commissions vital to the operation and growth of the City. MOA serves a critical role by providing talent recruitment support for the Administration, helping to build a strategy to create a sustainable and diverse talent pipeline for the Administration’s senior leadership positions.
TheProblems You’ll Solve
- Manage intake of candidate applications and nominations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Prepare materials and candidate summaries for review by the Appointments Director, Chief of Staff to the Mayor, and the Mayor.
- Conduct outreach to civic, community, and professional networks to identify and encourage diverse, qualified applicants.
- Coordinate communication with applicants and nominators throughout the process, providing timely updates and information.
- Coordinate with vetting team on vetting, compliance, and documentation for prospective appointees.
- Ensure data and candidate records are accurately maintained and easily accessible for leadership review.
- Draft briefing materials, reports, and communications for internal and external audiences as needed.
- Provide day-to-day administrative and logistical support to the Appointments Director and broader team to ensure smooth operations.
- Manage dedicated appointment staff.
- You can work independently on projects with broadly defined goals in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- You are detail-oriented with excellent organizational, prioritizing, and multitasking ability.
- You can exercise sound judgment and discretion and maintain the security of confidential documentation.
- You have an operational understanding of New York City agencies and the political environment, or are willing to learn.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 5+ years of experience.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
