Position is part of the processing team comprised of associate and assistant directors, specialists and support staff. Responsible for verifying income and other information on financial aid applications, revising aid based on changes to financial aid applications, reviewing Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals, and calculating refund and repayment amounts for withdrawn students. Assist with revising financial aid for spring and summer sessions.

Work with the other specialists in assisting with any processing functions including, but not limited to, revising aid due to grade level progressions, over cost and over need situations and mid-year graduation and processing of Direct Loan program reports. Position is cross trained to be able to assist other staff in performing critical business operations. May need to meet with or call students or parents to discuss specific issues or general aspects of institutional, state and federal financial assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals and calculate refund and repayment amounts for withdrawn students.
  • Assist with revising financial aid for spring and summer sessions.
  • Collaborate with other specialists on processing functions, including revisions due to grade level progressions, over-cost/over-need situations, mid-year graduation, and Direct Loan program reports.
  • Cross-train to assist other staff in performing critical business operations.
  • Meet with or call students or parents to discuss specific issues or general aspects of institutional, state and federal financial assistance as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel essential.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a college or university financial aid office or comparable setting preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended, related interpretations, rules, and regulations associated with the Act desirable.
  • Experience using People Soft or similar software helpful.
