About the Role

As a Principal Civil Engineer within the Rail business line, your impact will be in the planning, design, and delivery of technically excellent railway infrastructure. You will manage construction, handover and commissioning of key client’s manufacturing facilities.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Lead delivery of rail civil design packages.
  • Act as rolling stock Independent Certifier, certifying design, test, and acceptance for the project.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to integrate rail civil design packages with other railway infrastructure components, such as signalling systems and overhead wires, to achieve project and business outcomes.
  • Provide technical advice and technical leadership of rail civil projects locally and nationally.
  • Business development and work wining lead on civil and rail projects in the Queensland Market.
  • Line management of rail and rolling stock designers and managers.
  • Resourcing responsibilities for rail infrastructure and rolling stock designers and managers.
  • Produce, contribute, review, and/or approve engineering documentation, management and project inclusive of reports, calculations, specifications, procedures, plans, schedules, assessments etc.
  • Produce feasibility studies, technical reports, and other written technical documents.
  • Provide technical advice to clients, project teams and key stakeholders during construction, testing and commission phases of rail projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing technical advice/solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Recruitment of rail infrastructure personnel.
  • Business and performance reporting.
What do we need from you

Ideally, you will have 10+ years of demonstrated experience in rail civil engineering and infrastructure from Contractor side for depots and stations including track construction. In addition to this, you will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering
  • CPENG required
  • Ability to obtain RPEQ required if not held awarded
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian railway standards and guidelines and ability to adhere to industry best practices
  • Proven experience in civil design engineering within rail industry
  • Proven project management skills across full life cycle of projects of scale
  • Strong technical expertise in track design principles, standards and regulations to support critical railway infrastructure
  • Proven people leadership abilities with confidence to manage large multidisciplinary teams
  • Meet requirements for rail industry site work (Rail Industry Workers Card, OH&S card etc)
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with strong client management skillset
  • Resilience and maturity to manage self and work demands under pressure, takes ownership and accountability for work
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours from time-to-time, to meet international time zones
