Overview
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the energy plant and assists the engineering manager in the day-to‑day direction of energy plant operations. Takes a lead role in the inspection, installation and ongoing maintenance and repair of energy plant and other mechanical systems at all Bryan Health campuses. Utilizes extensive knowledge, experience, troubleshooting techniques and equipment manuals to identify, analyze and complete all preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of steam, condensate, chilled water, hot water, and soft water producing equipment and HVAC equipment.
Assigns daily work schedules and ensures project assignments are completed through individual or cooperative efforts.
Principal Job Functions
* Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.* Provides direction, information, and operating instructions on Energy Plant systems to Stationary Engineer I and II personnel.Sets up and assigns PM’s and work orders in the CMMS. Ensures timely PM completion.* Monitors, controls, and oversees the operation of multiple gas and oil‑fired boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors and auxiliary equipment.* Identifies, assesses, executes and documents the operation, repair and adjustment of Energy Plant equipment in accordance with federal, state, hospital policies/standards, and manufacturing specifications.* Assists the Engineering Manager in training personnel for Energy Plant Operator responsibilities.* Oversees lock‑out/tag‑out program and other safety programs in the energy plant.Assumes lead role in coordinating and preparing boilers for internal inspection by the state and insurance carrier.Coordinates contractors working on Energy Plant equipment and other mechanical systems.* Maintains system shut down plans; identifies emergency shut off valve locations; communicates valve locations and documents on drawing.* Coordinates the elevator service contact, verifies problems, removes trapped passengers, calls for service, and maintains work records.Assists with the collection and shipment of oils and chemicals for disposal.Completes work defined by the job descriptions of Energy Plant Operator I and II as required.May respond to emergency‑related Energy Plant calls after hours and on weekends; evaluates and initiates repair or notifies appropriate personnel in a manner based on the urgency of the situation.* Ensures proper safety devices and techniques to protect self and others; follows correct procedures and responds to emergency plans in accordance with hospital and department policies.* Follows policies and procedures when responding to calls outside of the Energy Plant; properly determines needed actions based on the problem and knowledge of repair/intervention necessary.Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.Required Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of steam generation, heating, air conditioning, water conditioning and electrical equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and precautions related to energy plant operations and conditions.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to work functions.
- Knowledge of applicable codes governing energy plant production and operation.
- Skill in the maintenance and operation of energy plant equipment, materials and tools.
- Skill in the use of portable metal working tools, electrician tools and test equipment.
- Ability to perform work under stressful and emergency situations.
- Ability to provide direction and support to coworkers.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to assist in the installation of ductwork and the maintenance of air conditioning and heating equipment.
