Essential Functions
- Provides leadership, coordination, and implementation for sections and programs related to Teaching, Learning and Assessment.
- Provides direction and guidance on the development and implementation of Nebraska Content Area Standards.
- Oversees the Statewide Assessment Section to ensure balanced assessment of Nebraska Content Area Standards.
- Leads processes to guide selection and implementation of high‑quality, standards‑based instructional resources within local school districts.
- Collaborates with agency leadership on program developments and operations of the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.
- Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships among state agencies, nonprofit organizations, postsecondary institutions, and business/industry partners.
- Coordinates review and preparation of relevant education‑related legislation, providing assistance to the Governor’s Office and Nebraska State Legislature.
- Works collaboratively to complete annual and biennial budgets, ensuring alignment with projects, initiatives and regulatory changes.
- Provides leadership in hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff, including performance management and professional development.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license, and travels independently as required.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or a related field.
- Current Nebraska teaching or administrative certificate.
- Eight years of experience related to the essential functions, including leadership and managerial experience.
- Ability to substitute equivalent education and/or work experience to meet minimum qualifications.
- Must possess a Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 by the time of employment and maintain it thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a doctorate or equivalent academic endeavor such as a Six‑Year Specialist Certificate.
- Demonstrated successful PreK‑12 leadership experience (director, specialist, coordinator, department head, administrator) including direct supervisory experience.
Working Conditions and Travel
Approximately 70% of work time spent in an office environment; remaining 30% traveling or working in settings such as schools, educational service units, and other service agencies. About 15 days of overnight travel per year.
