Description

The Inclusion/Reading Specialist provides leadership to teachers and administrators on the delivery of instructional activities that increase opportunities for special education students in inclusive settings. As an inclusion specialist, you will collaborate with regular education teachers to plan and present lesson plans, create assessments and make sure the needs of all students in the classroom are being met and are designed to help them fulfill their potential for spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

Responsibilities
  • Develop Student Education Plans (SEP) for students; maintain compliance with all Federal Regulations and State Policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons, and learning environment. Instruction may be provided within the regular classroom setting, TEAM Lab setting, and/or small classroom setting.
  • Design engaging classroom activities and differentiated lessons so that all students may access the curriculum and benefit from the educational experience.
  • Formally and informally assess the student learning (rather than relying solely on standardized curriculum) to create a comprehensive learning program.
  • Set high expectations that are suitable for the students. Assessments may be differentiated based on each SEP. This may require developing alternative assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and Paraeducators to plan, share student work and ensure that instruction is aligned with identified curriculum and standards.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, and administrators.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of evaluative data regarding special education students in general education settings on SEP goals.
  • Participate in SIT Committee meetings on a regular basis.
  • Participate in FIRE Foundation opportunities and ICE meetings.
Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or Reading from an accredited college or university.
  • Teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement.
  • Undergo safe environment training before beginning employment.
  • Undergo a background check.

Note: All employees are required to consent to a background check, sign and acknowledge the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Code of Conduct, complete Protecting God's Children training and Mandated Reporter Training prior to hire.
