Overview

The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the New York City Department of Education and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. OSH promotes the health of 1.3 million school‑aged children in roughly 1,800 public and non‑public schools across New York City. OSH provides NYC Health Code‑mandated clinical services, public health initiatives, chronic disease management, reproductive health care, and case management to ensure that students are healthy and ready to learn.

Duties
  • Develop, implement, and oversee clinical protocols for adolescent health.
  • Supervise high‑school field physicians and nurse practitioners.
  • Provide direct clinical services to high‑school students.
  • Orient and train OSH staff as needed.
  • Coordinate care for students in temporary housing and other high‑risk groups.
  • Prioritize asthma‑management initiatives to reduce absenteeism and improve health equity.
  • Monitor and respond to adolescent health trends, including chronic disease and substance use.
  • Provide health education to students and families.
  • Participate in mandated DOHMH and OSH trainings and program meetings.
  • Participate in the agency’s physician‑on‑call program.
Qualifications
  • Valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • A valid board certification in an appropriate specialty, or a current approved application for certification.
  • At minimum one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area (Assignment Level II).
