Maintenance Laborer - Streets

Position: Maintenance Laborer I - Streets
The City of Lincoln, Alabama is seeking a highly motivated, trustworthy and reliable individual with a strong aptitude in manual labor and street maintenance to join our Street department team as a Maintenance Laborer I. Reporting to the Director of Streets and Sanitation the Maintenance Laborer I will be responsible for various tasks, which may include litter crews and inmate labor coordinating, cleaning and maintaining city streets and related facilities, mowing grass and other general upkeep.

FUNCTIONS/DUTIES (include, but not limited to):

• Assist as needed in the daily operations of the street department which may include but not limited to litter crew coordination, maintenance of city streets, sidewalks and facilities, general landscaping, etc.
• Ensure adherence to safe working practices and procedures.
• Inspect, operate and maintain all equipment.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Preform general maintenance to City buildings and facilities.
• Operate mowers and power equipment.
• Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a graduate from an accredited high school or hold a certificate of high school equivalency (GED). Previous experience in general labor, landscaping and/or general maintenance preferred.
• Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license, and a driving record suitable for insurability. A commercial driver license (CDL) of the appropriate class is considered an asset.
• Must be willing to travel overnight to attend continuing education courses and workshops.
• Must possess adequate computer skills with knowledge of common office software and willingness to learn special software.
• Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must be willing to work non-standard hours, overtime, and weekends, as required.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background and driver's license check.

HOURS OF WORK: This position is considered full-time (40 hours weekly) and hours of work may vary by season. Evenings and weekends may be required of this role.

SALARY: The City of Lincoln offers a competitive starting hourly wage of $15.19 to $18.56 per hour. The starting salary for this position will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
