Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Department: Engineer

Reports to: Engineer Manager

Status: Exempt

Shift: Full-time, Monday - Friday

Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving innovative transport systems and components, from concept through production support, while meeting performance, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position requires collaboration with cross‑functional teams to develop and refine product designs, conduct analyses to evaluate product performance, and participate in prototype testing and validation. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self‑starter with excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Duties And Responsibilities

The position holder is responsible for:

  • Defining the mechanical assemblies or sub‑assemblies of the products or systems under their responsibility.
  • Selecting, within their field of expertise, the technical solutions that best meet the expressed requirements or needs, and justifying those choices.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the technical data and information communicated.
  • Integrating cost, quality, manufacturability, and maintainability constraints previously defined, with technical support from relevant stakeholders.
  • Reporting regularly—and whenever required—to the Project Manager or the Head of the Design Office.
Shared Between Three Main Activities
  • Mechanical system design (70%)
  • Research, analyze, specify, and justify technical solutions that meet specifications and manufacturability constraints.
  • Design mechanical systems using engineering tools: 3D digital modeling, simulation and pre‑sizing, functional and maintainability analyses.
  • Contribute to product development within a project team.
  • Lead and/or participate in technical meetings (internal, with suppliers or customers).
  • Create and maintain bills of materials.
  • Produce definition drawings: creation and/or modification of assembly and detailed drawings.
  • Produce technical documentation and specifications: creation and/or modification of specifications (e.g., purchasing, testing).
  • Compile and maintain the Design Definition File in the technical database (creation and/or integration of supporting documents).
  • Participate in supplier selection in collaboration with purchasing, quality, and methods departments.
  • Modification, evolution, and improvement of existing mechanical systems (25%)
  • Implement improvements to existing systems or products.
  • Address obsolescence issues.
  • Make necessary changes following regulatory updates.
  • Execute or contribute to cost‑reduction projects for existing systems or products.
  • Provide technical solutions for breakdowns, failures, non‑conformities, or other mechanical issues encountered during production or operation.
  • Support After‑Sales Service by providing technical assistance.
  • Technology watch (5%)
  • Conduct technological monitoring.
  • Propose improvements in design, quality, cost, and lead time.
