Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele Ortho Unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS, and a passed EKG/dysrhythmia exam.
Responsibilities- Orthopedic Med/Surg Telemetry unit (7K) in a hospital setting
- 28-bed unit serving primarily orthopedic patients (backs, necks, knees, hips), some trauma patients with orthopedic injuries, medical patients (UTI, appendicitis, generalized weakness, etc.), and bariatric surgery patients on day of surgery and POD #1
- Drips administered include Heparin and occasionally PCA with Morphine or Dilaudid; no other drips are used on this unit
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps and Hercules beds; lines and drains include Hemovac, True-close, and JP drains
- Oxygen management includes BiPAP (non-continuous only), nasal cannula, and occasional non-rebreather or venturi mask; no vents or trachs
- May team nurse with a small LPN population
- 12-hour PM shifts, every other weekend (EOW), every other holiday (EOH)
- Epic EHR is used on this unit
- Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, developing and implementing care plans, administering medications, and coordinating care across hospital departments
- Charge RN carries a full patient assignment alongside the rest of the RN staff
- Unit clerk support available Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Clinical Shift Supervisor available on nights (6:00 PM–3:30 AM) four nights per week, alternating between Monday–Thursday and Tuesday–Friday schedules
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Active OH RN license or valid Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience with surgical drains and post-operative orthopedic patient care (backs, hips, knees) strongly preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia/EKG exam (study guide provided; 2 attempts allowed on first day)
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and interdisciplinary staff
- Proof of address document required for consideration (Driver's License, Voter Registration Card, Federal Tax Return, Military Form DD-2058, or W-2)
- 1 supervisory reference required for consideration
- Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
