Location: Allen Correctional Institution, Allen County, Ohio.
Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse
Schedule: Full‑time
Pay: Approximately $58,000 per year
Union: OCSEA

Responsibilities
  • Provides patient care as directed
  • Documents patient‑related care timely within the electronic health record
  • Maintains patient medical records
  • Administers medication, including oral and intramuscular medications; may administer intravenous therapy if appropriately certified
  • Performs treatments
  • Assists with Doctor’s Sick Call
  • Assists with chronic care clinics management
  • Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities
  • Responds to emergencies
  • Provides emergency care and collection of patient data
  • Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings
  • Collects urine and/or other body fluid specimens
  • May perform venipuncture to obtain blood samples  analysis
  • ** Prepares patients for release and/or transfer (i.e., Intra‑system, out to court)
  • Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and timely forwarded to pharmacy services
  • Participates in work‑related training and all institution training exercises as assigned
  • Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
  • Investigates and documents problem areas and/or areas of concern
  • Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
  • Assists physicians with medical procedures
  • Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
  • Observes, documents and provides nursing support to assistive personnel (i.e., nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, and/or patient care assistants)
  • Provides patient education regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Performs administrative duties
  • Attends meetings
  • Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
  • Assists ancillary staff including Health Information Technicians and medical schedulers as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
  • Must work overtime as required
Qualifications & Skills
  • Licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code
  • MDS certification issued by ANNAC (American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination)
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) allowing a multistate license in Ohio
  • Proficiency in nursing, basic medical procedures, direct support/ direct care, medication management, medical charting
  • Strong problem‑solving, customer focus, teamwork, cultural awareness, confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively in a correctional setting and with a diverse population
