Position Summary
The Math Teacher designs and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction that supports all learners in developing conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence in mathematics.
Core Teaching Competencies- Demonstrates strong knowledge of mathematics content and research-based instructional practices
- Designs instruction grounded in curriculum standards and high-level learning goals
- Knows students as individuals, including their backgrounds, interests, strengths, and learning needs
- Integrates instructional resources and technology to enhance learning
- Uses formative and summative assessments to plan instruction and respond to student needs
- Establishes a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
- Manages instructional routines, materials, and transitions effectively
- Builds positive relationships with students that reflect care, cultural responsiveness, and high expectations
- Maintains clear and consistent standards of behavior
- Uses high-quality questioning strategies and provides adequate wait time
- Monitors student understanding and adjusts instruction in real time
- Provides timely, specific, and actionable feedback
- Persists in supporting students who experience difficulty, using a variety of strategies
- Communicates clear learning purposes and success criteria
- Delivers clear directions and explanations connected to students' prior knowledge
- Designs engaging lessons and meaningful learning activities
- Uses flexible grouping and appropriate instructional materials
- Maintains appropriate pacing and lesson structure
- Maintains accurate instructional and non-instructional records
- Communicates effectively and respectfully with families
- Actively participates in school and district initiatives
- Collaborates with colleagues in a spirit of shared responsibility
- Engages in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice
- Demonstrates professionalism, ethical behavior, and a commitment to student-centered decision-making
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Middle School Mathematics endorsement
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness
- Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology
- Salary per NSEA New Teacher Hire Grid for the 2026–27 school year
