Position Overview

North Shore School District 112 is seeking a passionate, student-centered Middle School Band & Orchestra Teacher for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position. This educator will provide high-quality instrumental music instruction across band and orchestra, fostering creativity, collaboration, and musical excellence while meeting the developmental needs of middle school learners.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong content knowledge, effective instructional practices, and a commitment to creating inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive musically and personally.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Planning
  • Design and deliver engaging band and orchestra instruction aligned to curriculum standards and best practices in music education.
  • Develop clear, rigorous instructional objectives that support a range of learners.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and address individual student needs.
  • Integrate instructional technology and district resources to enhance student learning and performance.
  • Actively seek knowledge of students' backgrounds, interests, abilities, and learning needs.
Classroom Environment & Student Engagement
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment that supports student engagement and risk‑taking.
  • Establish clear expectations and routines that maximize instructional time.
  • Foster respectful, positive relationships with students that reflect care and cultural responsiveness.
  • Manage transitions, materials, and physical space efficiently.
  • Engage students through meaningful ensemble experiences, practice routines, and performance opportunities.
Instructional Practice
  • Use high‑quality questioning and discussion strategies to deepen understanding.
  • Monitor student learning and adjust instruction responsively.
  • Provide timely, high‑quality feedback to support musical growth.
  • Support student self‑assessment, reflection, and goal setting.
  • Persist in identifying and implementing strategies to support students who experience difficulty.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate instructional and non‑instructional records.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute positively to the school and district community.
  • Participate in concerts, performances, rehearsals, and school/district events.
  • Engage in ongoing professional growth through reflection and professional learning.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and a commitment to student‑centered decision‑making.
Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate Middle School Music endorsement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices.
  • Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology.
  • Collaborative mindset and dedication to continuous improvement.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: Per NSEA New Teacher Hire Grid for the 2026–2027 school year.
  • Benefits: Excellent benefits package including TRS retirement pension service credit, paid sick, personal, and bereavement leave, and additional district benefits.
