Job Description
Obtain and verify personal, demographic and financial information to ensure quality patient care and maximal reimbursement for all billable clinical services. This includes scanning identification documents, obtaining EMTALA notification signatures, notifying clinical staff of critical patients, and placing appropriate insurance information on the account.
ResponsibilitiesAnalyze patient accounts, evaluate financial data, and document actions taken to maximize reimbursement; maintain knowledge of current insurance regulations; determine insurance coverage levels; complete required questionnaires; obtain and document clinical referrals; coordinate financial assistance; initiate online verification of third‑party insurers; evaluate medical necessity and Medicare compliance; process emergency and obstetrics cases; answer incoming calls; obtain revenue‑cycle signatures; prepare charts and documentation;
provide patient education about rights and responsibilities; interview patients and enter demographic and financial data; maintain productivity standards; communicate effectively to meet customer‑service goals; provide education and mentoring for other staff; attend meetings and review procedural changes.
High school diploma required; associate’s degree preferred or equivalent education/experience. One to three years experience in registration, billing, customer service, or managed‑care environment. Knowledge of hospital medical‑staff rules and infection‑control policies. Analytical skills. Computer literacy:
Epic, Passport, OnBase, Microsoft Office, Midas. Ability to use internet and third‑party payor systems for eligibility and verification. Knowledge of health‑insurance coverage and requirements. Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. Ability to handle stressful situations and resolve customer‑service issues independently. Must understand medical terminology and acuity levels.
Annual registration competency review with 95%+ score; yearly STAT testing completed.
