Assistant Track and Field Coach

The Virginia Military Institute (VMI), a small NCAA Division I institution located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley of Southwest Virginia, is seeking a qualified coach to fill the position of Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Assistant Coach, with primary responsibilities in short sprints, jumps, and multi-events in the Southern Conference.

• Assist in organizing and directing all phases of the Track and Field Program.
• Recruit and evaluate potential student-athletes.
• Coordinate team travel arrangements.
• Design and implement training programs focused on athlete development, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
• Collaborate with coaching staff, athletic department, and VMI administration to support student‑athlete academic progress and personal development.
• Perform administrative duties and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
• Ensure compliance with VMI, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Coaching experience or experience as a collegiate student‑athlete in short sprints, jumps, and multi‑events at the collegiate or high school level.
• Current USATF Level I certification and/or USTFCCCA Jump Event Specialist certification.

• 4 years of coaching experience.
• USATF Level II certification (preferred in sprints or jumps).
• USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning certification.
• Demonstrated success in recruiting and developing student‑athletes.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Work well within a team environment and meet deadlines while balancing multiple tasks.
