Job DutiesThe Virginia Museum of the Civil War at the New Market Battlefield State Historical Park is accepting applications for a part‑time Historical Interpreter/Office Aide. Duties include presenting quality interpretation to groups and general park visitors, assisting with coordinating special events and living history programs, providing superb customer service, and providing administrative support.
Hours:
8:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m., with hours as needed by management and weekend work required.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications- Requires interest in history & strong communication skills.
- Ability to create and execute engaging and sustainable educational programming.
- Experience in social media content creation and overseeing a professional social media account.
- Enthusiasm for working with the public.
- Self‑motivated; quick learner.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Poise, reliability & friendly, professional manner.
- Neat, businesslike appearance.
- Basic computer skills to include knowledge with Excel.
- Knowledge of basic office functions – answering phones, filing records, inputting data, and making copies.
- Flexibility.
- Experience in public speaking.
- Ability to read and assimilate a substantial amount of historical information and to communicate it accurately to the visitors.
- Ability to work well under pressure of large groups of visitors and unexpected occurrences.
