• Perform general maintenance of facilities ies typically include a combination of the following: plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, and snow/ice removal.
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical conduit, wiring, panels, outlets, switches, fixtures, and lighting systems to code.
• Perform routine monthly testing on generators and emergency lights.
• Read technical diagrams and blueprints.
• Maintain and repair various sizes and types of electrical motors and various electrical lights and equipment.
• Test circuits using various testing devices.
• Support contractor visits.
• Attend code and electrical courses.
• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor in the workplace.
• Uphold the standard for Physical Plant appearance and behavior.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE: gloves, eye protection, etc.) and use applicable safety equipment when performing all aspects of the job.
• Attend all scheduled safety training classes to stay current on procedures, PPE, and proper handling and disposition of hazardous materials.
• Identified as essential personnel for the purpose of responding to emergencies, weather, storm damage, and/or natural disasters.
• Being on call, every third week as part of a team, with the ability to respond in a reasonable time and identified as essential personnel for responding to emergencies, inclement weather and/or natural disasters.
• Work well independently and with others in a team environment and the general public.
• Work weekends and evenings to support VMI functions and emergencies.
• Uphold the established appearance and conduct standards to ensure the VMI Physical Plant organization is represented to the highest level and respected in the VMI community.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

• Ability to use an iPad for the work order system

• Valid Virginia driver’s license with clean driving record required
• Experience and general knowledge in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
• Ability to work from heights and operate a power lift

• Extensive experience in the maintenance field
• Trades License and/or certifications
• Computer skills
• High School Graduate or GED.
