Insight Global’s client is seeking a Junior Construction Manager / Owner’s Representative to support a long‑term capital construction project on the campus of a prestigious Virginia university. This individual will be dedicated to a multi‑year renovation and reconstruction effort involving historic campus buildings within an active academic environment.
About the RoleThis role serves as the owner’s on‑site representative, responsible for observing construction activities, verifying compliance with approved plans and specifications, and maintaining accurate project documentation. The position is well‑suited for a construction professional with several years of field or inspection experience who is interested in long‑term growth and progression into a Project Manager role.
Responsibilities- Perform daily on‑site construction observations and inspections as directed by the Architect & Engineer (A&E)
- Verify contractor work complies with approved drawings, specifications, submittals, and applicable Virginia building codes
- Observe and document contractor safety compliance, including verification of required safety personnel
- Review materials, equipment, and installation methods to ensure conformance with approved submittals
- Track subcontractor activity and sequencing to support schedule adherence
- Capture 20–50 site photos per day and submit documentation through the designated reporting system
- Prepare and submit organized daily reports, inspection logs, and project records
- Identify issues, discrepancies, or potential risks and report findings promptly
- Work independently on site with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
- Limited direct communication with contractors or construction managers; primary focus is observation and reporting
- 3–5 years of experience in construction inspection, construction management, or a closely related field
- Working knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals
- Experience performing on‑site construction observations and documenting findings
- Strong organizational, documentation, and administrative skills
- Ability to take and submit 20–50 daily site photos and complete written reports
- Comfortable working independently on active construction sites
- Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
- Professional and respectful demeanor on job sites
- Experience working on public‑sector or Commonwealth of Virginia projects
- Familiarity with Virginia building codes
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Construction Quality Control (QC) coursework or certification
- Experience supporting multi‑year capital construction projects
