Position: Assoc Staff - Electrical Engineering

The Advanced Electro-Optical Systems Group specializes in the rapid design and prototyping of innovative electro-optic systems that support the Department of Defense, NASA, and other U.S. government organizations. The group has deep expertise in satellite systems, electro-optical and infrared sensors, electronics, image processing, and low‑Swap (size, weight, and power) optical communications. By combining hardware and software development under one roof, the group rapidly architects, prototypes, and deploys end‑to‑end systems tailored to mission needs.

We work closely with end users to transform enabling concepts into operational capabilities on accelerated timelines.

We are seeking self‑motivated engineers and scientists with multidisciplinary skill sets and a passion for prototyping cutting‑edge systems that address critical national challenges.

Job Description

The Group seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our prototyping team, focused on building and integrating advanced electro‑optic camera systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers to design, prototype, integrate, and deploy highly integrated electro‑optic systems for terrestrial and space applications.

This role emphasizes hands‑on execution and system‑level ownership, including electronics design, hardware bring‑up, debugging, and integration with sensors, optics, and mechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate is self‑directed, comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces, and able to identify, scope, and solve problems across disciplinary boundaries. Engineers in this role are expected to think beyond individual boards or subsystems and contribute to overall system performance, reliability, and mission success.

The Group is vertically integrated and develops systems from concept through prototyping and deployment. Given the collaborative and hardware‑focused nature of the work, the successful applicant is expected to work fully on site.

Requirements
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related technical field. A Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of experience would be considered.
  • Demonstrated analog, digital, and/or FPGA electronics design experience
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • This is an on‑site, collaborative role
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with analog/digital/FPGA electronics design
  • Motor control/sensors/camera design
  • Power system design
  • PCB design and software
  • Circuit simulation
  • Space qualified electronics design
  • Knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or other programming languages
