  • Bachelor’s degree in related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

General Summary

Under general supervision, multilingual learners in academic and social skills to ensure that individual student needs, interests and abilities are met. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One toward increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Supervises students in classroom activities and in other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems.
  • Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers, including the integration of educational technology and digital resources to enhance language instruction.
  • Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications aimed at advancing English language proficiency through a content-based instructional approach.
  • Develops Individualized Language Acquisition Plans based on each student's English language proficiency level that includes appropriate language goals.
  • Teaches concepts, strategies, and skills that facilitate English language acquisition and contribute to students’ academic and personal development.
  • Communicates and collaborates with classroom teachers concerning appropriate accommodations; maintains documentation of communication and collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Assists classroom teachers by modifying instructional tasks and/or assessments as appropriate.
  • Assesses student learning through formative and summative evaluations, monitors progress, recommends interventions as necessary, documents assessments, and evaluates group project contributions when applicable.
  • Assists school personnel in providing professional learning experiences for parents, teachers and staff.
  • Facilitates effective communication between school personnel and parents, including coordinating translation and interpretation services according to district procedures as needed.
  • Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Collaborates with school staff to ensure equitable and appropriate scheduling for students in the ML program in accordance with district and state policies and procedures.
  • Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
  • Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development.
