Job purposePromotes the value of the Museum collection and artifacts to the public by designing and delivering public educational programs which advance the mission of the Museum and the cultural heritage of our community.
DescriptionDevelops public education programs, demonstrations, lectures, and exhibits which utilize the buildings, artifacts in our collection, American history and historical accounts from Lexington County. Authenticates antiques and historic artifacts and interprets historic buildings. Ensures the preservation of artifacts by protecting them from harsh sunlight, temperature fluctuations, handling, and insects while balancing their accessibility to visitors and researchers; selects items for restoration and conservation;
maintains archives of historic documents, photographs and printed materials for public research. Seeks and administers grant funds, sponsor ships and partnerships for special projects, programs, collections care, restoration and acquisition of new objects. Promotes the museum and its programs through presentations, articles, publications and social media; interacts and communicate with various groups and individuals such as community organizations, school groups, program participants, tourists, news media, professional peers, and the public.
Ensures the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of the Visitors Center; oversees the proper documentation and submittal of museum admission fees; prepares and submits revenue reports and visitation statistics as required. Prepares budgets for projects, programs and staffing. Oversees daily museum operations in the absence of the Director. Selects, trains, and supervises part time staff, volunteers and interns; instructs on how to work with historic objects, lead tours, present Museum programs to the public and perform minor maintenance and customer service.
Master's degree preferred.
