American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position in Lexington, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency in critical care skills including vent management and vasoactive medication titration.
Details- 16-bed ICU unit within a 96-bed community hospital that is part of a teaching health system and a primary stroke center
- Medical ICU patient population with common diagnoses including ARDS, sepsis, COPD, DKA, and stroke
- RN-to-patient ratio of 2:1 for ICU patients and 3:1 for IMC patients
- CNA support available on the unit for ADLs, transport, and receptionist duties
- Charge nurse, resource nurse, and respiratory therapy available 24/7; intensivist and hospitalist coverage 24/7
- PICC team available on-site during partial hours; no IV/VAT team
- EMR:
Epic (experience preferred) - IV pumps:
Alaris; medication dispensing:
Omnicell; patient monitors: GE - Unit-specific equipment includes Bair Hugger, Verathon Bladder Scanner, and Blanketrol machine
- 12-hour day shifts with a 0645 start time, on a 6-week scheduling cycle
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating to Med Surg (4:1 ratio) required; ED float is resource-only with no patient assignment
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in arterial line management, vasoactive medication titration, ventilator management and weaning, and chest tube management
- Strong critical thinking skills essential
- 1 professional reference dated within the past year required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Responsibilities include managing complex MICU-type patients with a focus on hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, and critical medication titration
- Unit culture is collaborative, with experienced nurses expected to support and mentor newer graduate nurses on the team
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- RTO requests require Resource Team approval
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- First-time travelers will be considered with demonstrated strong ICU experience
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates previously employed in a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
