Position: Med-Surg Nurse (RN) - Lexington, NC
An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with Med Surg and Telemetry experience to work a contract position in Lexington, NC. This role supports a Level 1 Trauma Designated academic medical center known for chest pain and stroke certifications, serving a diverse patient population.

Location Overview:

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients with medical and transitional care needs, including CHF, COPD, kidney, liver, GI, respiratory issues, CIWA, infections, wounds, and occasional surgical cases.
  • Manage 20 beds divided between two units; patient ratio approximately 1:5.
  • Deliver care involving tracheostomies, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care including vacs, dressing changes, drains, and central line blood draws.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms and participate in telemetry monitoring.
  • Administer non-titrating drips such as Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone preferred but not required.
  • Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, hospitalists, residents, respiratory therapists, and phlebotomy services available 24/7.
  • Utilize EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensers.
  • Participate in orientation including 2 shifts on the unit with a nurse educator.
  • Follow scheduled shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, working alternating weekends and approximately 50% of holidays.
Qualifications:
  • Current RN license with a minimum of 2 years Med Surg experience.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, wound care, IV management, and use of relevant drips.
  • Experience with telemetry and critical care support is essential.
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position.
Schedule and Work Environment:
  • Night shift from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend.
  • No on-call required.
  • Scheduling is managed in 6-week increments; overtime requires leadership approval.
  • Scrubs color is royal blue; free parking is provided.
