Student Nurse Externship

Overview

Student Nurse Externship at Research Medical Center allows nursing students to gain practical experience in a flexible, PRN role. Working with a supportive RN team, you will perform basic patient care, learn clinical procedures, and gain experience across multiple units. The position is open to students enrolled in an accredited nursing program and is ideal for those planning to pursue a graduate nurse role.

• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions.
• Assist the nursing staff under RN supervision to provide patient care in accordance with skill level and department needs.
• Maintain a clean, well‑organized, and safe patient care environment.
• Participate in clinical skills check‑offs and hand‑ons with an RN.
• Work flexible hours, including float pool, medical‑surgical, orthopedics, oncology, cardiac care, and other available units.
• Earn shadow time on additional units and interview early for graduate nurse opportunities.

• Actively enrolled in an accredited nursing program; completion of Nursing Fundamentals required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 30 days of employment start date.
• High School Graduate / GED.
• Good standing in nursing school and able to perform higher‑level procedures once competency is achieved.
• Strong communication skills, teamwork, and a positive attitude toward patient care.
