Job DescriptionThe Facility Service Department's (FSD) engineering team is a full‑service MEP consulting engineering department, knowledgeable in the latest regulatory requirements and building codes. We provide engineering assessments, design drawings, bid documents and construction administration for a wide variety of projects from small renovations to complete laboratories.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering support for facility projects, primarily HVAC system design (air and water), process piping/ductwork, as well as plumbing and fire protection systems. This position will be responsible for the design and construction oversight of new spaces/renovations and modifications to existing building systems in concert with other disciplines for offices, laboratories/clean rooms, and other similar spaces.
Responsibilities- Complete building mechanical system designs including calculations, equipment selection and sizing, control strategies, ductwork and piping systems design, etc.
- Work in a collaborative team environment to develop project scope, basis of design and create contract bid packages inclusive of specifications, calculations, and drawings.
- Perform necessary calculations for building HVAC systems including heat load, air flow calculations, pump and equipment sizing/selection, development of BOD, etc.
- Participate in the construction administration process including resolving field issues, site inspections, review of shop drawings, start up, and final punch list.
- Provide system design using AutoCAD MEP and REVIT.
- Ensure timely completion of projects based on workflow schedules.
- Support and contribute updates to design standards, master specifications, as‑built and system documents.
- Attend weekly team meetings to coordinate interdisciplinary design issues and support discipline/department initiatives.
- Perform design studies, code assessments (IBC, UFC, MA 780 CMR, etc.) and write reports as may be required.
- Support O&M operational facility issues with investigation and troubleshooting, support work orders, and engineering support; produce supporting drawings and equipment selections.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 4–6 years of industry‑related building mechanical (HVAC) system design experience required.
- Experience with the facilities infrastructure of research laboratories, offices, clean rooms, data centers, central plant utilities (steam, chilled water, etc.) desired.
- Working knowledge/proficient in building and mechanical codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/AutoCAD MEP software is required. Experience with REVIT is desired.
- Field work is required – must have the ability to climb ladders and work in construction areas.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance required.
- Proven ability to work successfully in a team environment.
- Plumbing, process piping system, and/or fire protection design experience is considered advantageous.
- Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria is preferred.
- Professional Engineering License is desired, or EIT certification with ability to obtain PE is considered advantageous.
- Experience using Carrier HAP and/or Pipe‑Flo software desired.
Hiring Range: $92,900 – $123,000
Job Grade: ADM‑IC3
