HVAC Technician

Job Description

The primary objective of this position is to perform daily activities of a Commercial Service Technician under the direction of the Service Manager. This position is primarily responsible for the daily field activities required to execute aftermarket projects, T&M Labor, Preventative Maintenance Agreements and help manage the guys. This position must embody the company core values, team mentality, and excel in written and oral communication.

The Mechanical Service Technician maintains excellent customer relationships, expert knowledge of HVAC equipment, quality workmanship and documentation, coordination of post‑sale work, safety standards compliance, and issue resolution. Excellent time management and problem‑solving skills are essential.

Description of Principal Duties
  • Assist Project Manager with installation training when required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical systems (including but not limited to: RTUs, split systems, VRFs, boilers, chillers, AHU and VAV).
  • Repair or install proposed diagnosis.
  • Plan, layout and maintain overall efficiency at project repair and/or installation.
  • Work independently.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with Owner Training.
  • Support Service Manager with warranty and non‑warranty issue resolution.
  • Manage onsite communication with customers and facility directors.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in training apprentices.
  • Occasionally assist with startup or issue resolution with other mechanical and control product lines.
  • Consult with Service Manager or manufacturer support in times of uncertainty.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to solve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with aftermarket project management and service controller to keep jobs on track and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and AEC stakeholders to ensure effective issue resolution.
  • Always maintain company culture and core values.
  • Understand company long and short‑term mission and vision.
  • Attend regular L10 meetings.
  • Attend quarterly reviews.
Additional Knowledge/Skill Set
  • Understand basic refrigeration cycle, super heat, subcooling, component identification, troubleshooting, manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature charts, and temperature measuring devices. Understand refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and proper charging based on super heat and subcooling.
  • Understand electron theory, electricity travel, AC and DC currents, single‑phase and three‑phase circuits, series and parallel circuits, Ohm’s Law, and use multimeters to read voltage, current, and resistance. Troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.
  • Understand air conditioning conditioning, temperature, humidity, and distribution control. Read and understand mechanical drawings. Understand heating cycle, identify heating system components, troubleshoot via gas pressure manometer and other routine maintenance devices for gas‑fired units.
  • Understand combustion theory and its relation to combustible fuels such as gas and oil. Use a gas combustion analyzer and correct improper combustion.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • HVAC Journeyman license and EPA Certification. At least 5 years of trade‑related work experience.
