Plant Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Union) Overview

The Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installation, inspection, repairs, and maintenance of machinery and electrical and mechanical equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical tasks related to installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and related equipment.
  • Assure equipment operates per manufacturer specifications.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Select stock, tools, and supplies for assigned tasks.
  • Load/unload stock, tools, and supplies from vehicles and store them.
  • Read diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Complete sections of service requests, work requests, and/or project forms as directed.
  • Repair and maintain lawn and snow-moving equipment and operate the same.
  • Install and repair ceiling, floor tile, and base as needed.
  • Relief the plant operating engineer when needed, after proper training.
  • Assist or pursue apprenticeship in trades such as plumber, carpenter, painter, electrician, refrigeration mechanic, elevator mechanic, or plant operating engineer.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education (experience can substitute)
  • High School Diploma. Technical school(s) required: combination of classroom study and shop experience, at least 650 hours, in the mechanical field.
  • Cooperative education programs may substitute for work or shop experience.
Work Experience (education can substitute)
  • Up to 1 year: must have background in the mechanical field, which includes either (A) one year of training in a technical school and one year of experience, or (B) three years of documented experience on mechanical duties.
  • Six months to one year of on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency in assigned duties.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical & electrical equipment.
  • Hold valid licenses as required.
  • Drive vehicle as required.
