Job DescriptionAs part of the Cultural Resources Management Team, you will be involved in projects across the Midwest and Southeast, from survey to mitigation. You’ll work on Phase I–III projects, collaborate with diverse teammates worldwide, and help clients meet environmental regulations.
This OpportunityWSP is searching for a Project Archaeologist to join our Louisville, KY office. The role involves leading projects, directing field teams, developing project scopes, interacting with clients and tribal representatives, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Your Impact- Lead heritage and cultural resource projects.
- Direct field teams on archaeological surveys and excavations.
- Assist with development and scoping of medium‑sized projects.
- Interact with clients, landowners, contractors, and others.
- Work with tribal monitors and representatives.
- Help clients comply with state and federal regulations.
- Prepare and assist with completing cultural resources reports, data entry, impact assessment, and permitting activities.
- Perform professional archaeological work and conduct investigations, inspections, studies, and surveys to assess cultural resources problems.
- Interact with regulatory and historical preservation agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Maintain current knowledge of the latest archaeological methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities escalaed by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of post‑education experience with Section 106/110 compliance, CRM archaeology, preferably in the Midwest and Southeast.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory framework for heritage resource management compliance.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Expertise in the archaeology of the Midwest and Southeast Regions.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
- Proficiency in self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to guide and lead junior team or project members with strict QA/QC adherence.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze testing results and data.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Availability for schedules beyond a typical workweek and occasional travel as needed.
- Preference for specialists with clearly defined knowledge, skills, and abilities evidenced by publications, presentations, and experience in the Central United States.
- Active participation in professional practice organizations.
