Overview

This position includes eligibility for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities
  • The Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for all elements of the nursing process in direct patient care for critically ill patients, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care focused on patient education and satisfaction. The RN administers medications per established policies and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrates leadership, develops and revises policies, provides feedback to peers, supports professional development, and evaluates evidence-based outcomes.
  • The RN is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care based on age-specific components. The RN coordinates care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administering medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines, the RN influences care outcomes by collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.

    The RN executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to managing complex patient care. The RN collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. The RN provides performance and leadership to improve care for acutely/critically ill patients at high risk for life-threatening health problems, regardless of setting. The RN offers peers formal or informal constructive feedback, supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care, and fosters a safe and supportive environment for professional development of healthcare professionals.

    The RN evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations, and is responsible for documented outcomes at the program or service level, which may be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility. This nurse integrates theoretical concepts with strong critical thinking skills and exhibits expert technically skilled practice.

  • Pay Scale: NP96
  • Pay:
    Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
