Experience:
No experience required. - Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
- Shift Pattern: Three 12‑hour shifts (7P–730AM) in a 36‑hr per week schedule; may include weekend and holiday work. Shift determined upon interview.
Registered nurses in Tower 100 ICU of the Trauma Acute Care Surgical Center at UK Chandler Hospital provide care primarily for adult patients with trauma or acute care surgical conditions, including blunt and penetrating trauma injuries and vascular surgeries. Primary responsibilities include:
- Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, and evaluating comprehensive nursing plans of care.
- Delivering direct patient care and ensuring patient satisfaction.
- Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians.
- Adhering to university policies, procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborating with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and patient outcomes.
- Utilizing the nursing process and a patient‑centered plan of care.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model.
- Excellent direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation and internet usage.
- Professional, respectful communication with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Motivated, proactive, and confident advocate for patients and families.
- Team-oriented with open, honest communication.
- Exceptional technical skills and independence in task performance.
No supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred Education/ExperienceBSN + at least 1 year of RN experience is preferred.
