Salary: $23.25‑39.10/hour

Job SummaryProgressive Care Per Diem pool will care for Progressive/Universal patients within the UK Healthcare Enterprise at both Samaritan and Chandler locations. Per diem pay is based on the number of shifts agreed to work—with highest pay provided for night shift / weekend coverage. The primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating comprehensive nursing plans of care;
delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
- Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians.
- Adhere to University policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes.
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit, Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
- Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model.
- Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
- Strong communication, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and confident in advocating for patients.
- Experience in Progressive Care (preferred: BSN + at least 18 months of Progressive Care RN experience).
The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
