Summary
2H ICU is a 12-bed Cardiovascular & Thoracic Critical Care Unit. Primarily serving adult and geriatric post-op cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries (CABG, Valve Replacement/Repair, TAVR, Bronch/Thor, and other thoracic and vascular surgeries). This unit also cares for general surgery post-op requiring intensive care, pre and post critical cardiac cath lab interventions, post cardiac arrest, sepsis, and complex care ICU patients. 2
HICU also provides care for patients on multiple devices such as the Arctic Sun (Hypothermia protocol), ECMO, Impella, IABP, and CVVHD/CRRT.

Unit Description2H ICU is a 12-bed cardio/thoracic ICU unit. This unit services post-op cardiac surgery patients, cardiac intervention, unstable post-op patients requiring direct ICU admission and complex care ICU patients.

Responsibilities- The Registered Nurse (RN) implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness.
- Honors patients' mind, body, and spirit by respecting human dignity and the uniqueness of each individual.
- Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research as well as hospital and department policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines.
- Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity.
- Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines.
- As a clinical nurse, this individual spends majority of time (> 50%) coordinating, ensuring, and providing direct patient care activities on the unit through: provision of nursing rounds, assessments and treatments; facilitating admission, transfer and discharge activities; provision of patient and family-centered education, care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable.
- Current RN licensure or work permit in Kentucky.
- Bachelor's or an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college/university.
- Those with an associate degree in nursing and less than 10 years of experience must enroll within 12 months of hire in a bachelor's degree program and must have achieved the degree within 5 years.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. ACLS/PALS/NRP and successful completion of dysrhythmia class as required by department of Assignment.
