Required License/Registration/Certification

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements

The essential functions for this position include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Shift

Shifts start times are 7a, 11a, 3p or 7p. Availability/preference discussed during interview. Must be able to work three 12-hour shifts per week including weekends and holidays. No swing shifts or set schedules.

Job Summary

Registered Nurses in Pediatric Emergency Services at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for patients from infancy to age 17. The Emergency Department consists of 5 areas: triage, chair-centric/express care for low-acuity patients seen and discharged within 60 minutes (e.g., sore throat, minor injuries); acute care area (16 beds) for common emergencies; critical care (8 beds) for trauma resuscitation or ICU-level treatment;

UK Level I Trauma Center with 8 beds for complex injuries.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include delivering total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care: assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care; deliver direct patient care; ensure patient satisfaction; train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians; adhere to University policies and procedures and all regulations. Foster collaboration among nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and outcomes;

utilize the nursing process with a patient-centered plan of care to ensure patient satisfaction.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Maslow’s hierarchy, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model; strong direct patient care and critical thinking; basic computer/navigation skills; professional communication with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians; strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills; motivated, proactive, confident in advocating for patients and families; team-oriented with open communication; capable of independent and collaborative work.

BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
