Job SummaryRegistered Nurses in the Medical Surgical unit on 5 Main at UK Good Samaritan Hospital provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care to adults with a range of medical and surgical needs, including diabetes, endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, wound care, and pre‑ and post‑operative patients.
Responsibilities- Assess, document, plan, implement, educate, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant).
- Adhere to University policies and procedures, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and improve patient outcomes.
Must work three 12‑hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) and may be required to work weekends and holidays.
Physical RequirementsLifting or carrying up to 100 pounds on a daily basis and 50–75 pounds frequently; standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods; exposure to communicable diseases and potential hazards such as radiation; handling sharp instruments safely.
Licensing and Certification- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), provisional license, or an active compact state RN license in good standing.
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification (valid for at least 6 months from employment date).
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred along with at least one year of RN experience.
- Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model.
- Proficient computer navigation skills and familiarity with internet resources.
- Strong communication, professionalism, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, confident in patient advocacy, and collaborative team member.
