Job Summary and Responsibilities
This position is accountable for the daily patient care operations of the assigned department, working under the direction of the Nurse Manager on assigned shifts. Responsible for daily patient care assignments, maintaining clinical standards of care, maintaining labor productivity and supervision of the patient care environment; supporting the care team. Supports the activities of the Nurse Manager. Maintains positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships.
Directs patient throughput activities in the assigned unit. Maintains evidence-based nursing practices to achieve desirable patient outcomes in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.

Job Requirements RequiredEducation and Experience
- Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current RN license in the State of Kentucky
- Basic Life Support (BLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) via the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of hire
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Previous nursing experience in Telemetry, Cardiac, Emergency or Critical Care service lines
As an ER Nurse CHI Saint Joseph Health, you’ll be the first touchpoint to the people in our community during health emergencies.
No two days in emergency nursing are ever the same. You’re a multitasker who can react quickly as you’ll prioritize patients based on their medical necessity while you’re providing emergency triage to others. As part of our ER team, you’ll partner with an experienced clinical team to deliver stabilizing care to our patients by performing IV starts, foley catheter insertions, or aiding providers with chest tube insertions.
To thrive as an ER nurse, you should exhibit teamwork, professionalism, critical thinking skills, and a willingness to take on additional projects such as patient experience initiatives. More than anything, you should be energetic and motivated to provide quality care to all of our patients, maintaining their dignity at every step.
Key Responsibilities:- Use emergency triage protocol to intake, discharge or admit patients.
- Deliver stabilizing care to emergency patients of all ages as part of the larger ER team, adapting care to changes in patient’s condition as needed.
- Use knowledge of cultural differences to provide patient care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs. Document the nursing care plan and changes in the patient's condition.
