  • Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing, and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods; possible exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
  • Shift: Start times 7 am, 11 am, 3 pm, or 7 pm. Must work three 12‑hour shifts per week, including weekends and holidays. No swing shifts or set schedules.

Job Summary

Registered Nurses in Pediatric Emergency Services at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for patients with illnesses from infant to up to 17 years of age. The Chandler Emergency Department consists of five different areas where care is provided: triage determines priorities; chair‑centric and express care is for low acuity patients seen and discharged within 60 minutes; acute care is a 16‑bed area for common complaints such as abdominal pain or mild shortness of air;

critical care is an eight‑bed area for patients needing ICU treatment; and the Level I Trauma Center has eight beds for complex injured patients.

Responsibilities

Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care, including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; deliver direct patient care; ensure patient satisfaction; train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians; and adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process with a patient‑centered plan of care.

Educational & Experience Preferences
  • Preferred: BSN + at least 1 year RN experience.
