Required License/Registration/Certification:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification and either enrollment or start in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) post‑master’s program within the first year of hire or obtain Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP‑BC) as soon as eligible or Physician Assistant‑Certified (PA‑C).

Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide night shift clinical coverage primarily in the Emergency Medicine Observation Unit. This role supports the department’s mission by enhancing patient care capacity, providing close monitoring for clinically complex patients, and contributing to excellence in patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Duties
- Direct patient care
- Patient and family education
- Support to fast track and physician in the triage system
- Serve as a critical member of the clinical care team
- Obtain patient health histories, review outside records, and perform complete physical examinations
- Document findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests
- Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient’s clinical status
- Explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of therapy to patients, family, staff, and healthcare learners
- Serve as a role model for advanced practice professional provider through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
