Our flagship platform, MyRacehorse (MRH), stands as the world's largest fractional thoroughbred ownership platform, boasting over 100,000 passionate owners and achieving 200+ race wins, including prestigious events like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Breeders’ Cup Classic.

We are currently scaling beyond horse racing and significantly enhancing the MRH platform. As we modernize our technology stack and launch new products, ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our infrastructure is critical. We seek a technical cornerstone—a Dev Ops leader—to take deep ownership of our platform's foundation.

The Role:

Staff/Principal Dev Ops Engineer – Infrastructure Reliability & Developer Velocity

This is a hands-on technical ownership role focused on individual contribution, not people management. As our inaugural Staff or Principal Dev Ops Engineer, you will be the most senior individual contributor dedicated to infrastructure, security, and developer enablement. You will serve as the expert ensuring our systems are scalable, secure, and reliable. Your focus will be on architecting cloud infrastructure, building robust CI/CD pipelines, and developing tools that empower software engineers to deploy code faster and more safely.

Key Responsibilities (Your Mission):

• Architect and Own Cloud Infrastructure: Design, build, and manage scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure). Own Infrastructure as Code (IaC) utilizing tools like Terraform or Cloud Formation.
• Build World-Class CI/CD Engine: Create and maintain robust, automated CI/CD pipelines for our entire tech stack, including Next.js frontend, Capacitor mobile builds, and Magento (PHP) backend, ensuring fast, reliable, and safe deployments.
• Stabilize and Secure Core Platform: Take ownership of the hosting environment for the critical Magento e-commerce platform. Implement best practices for performance tuning, security hardening, and zero-downtime deployments.
• Champion Observability and Reliability: Implement and manage a comprehensive observability strategy using logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana). Define SLOs/SLIs to guarantee platform health.
• Automate Everything: Drive an automation culture across the engineering organization. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in development and operational workflows by building targeted solutions.
• Lead Infrastructure Security & Compliance: Partner with the engineering team to implement and automate security best practices across all layers of the stack. Ensure infrastructure meets stringent requirements for compliance and cyber insurance.
• Elevate Developer Experience (Dev Ex): Act as a force multiplier by improving local development environments, streamlining build processes, and providing self-service tools to enhance engineering productivity.

Required Skills & Experience (Qualifications):

• Proven Senior Dev Ops/SRE: Significant experience as a Senior, Staff, or Principal Dev Ops or Site Reliability Engineer, with a track record of owning infrastructure for a high-growth product.
• Cloud and IaC Expert: Deep, hands-on expertise with a major cloud provider (AWS preferred) and mastery of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or a similar tool.
• CI/CD Master: Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining sophisticated CI/CD pipelines using tools like Git Hub Actions, Git Lab CI, or Jenkins.
• Containerization Pro: Highly proficient with Docker and production experience with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes (EKS/GKE) or ECS.
• Pragmatic with Legacy Systems: Experience supporting and migrating legacy applications. Specific experience with the PHP/Magento ecosystem is a massive plus.
• Security-First Mindset: Instinctively builds security into designs and possesses experience with infrastructure security tools, vulnerability scanning, and implementing compliance controls.
