Eastern State Hospital is currently recruiting for a full‑time Nurse Assistant/Mental Health Associate in Allen 2. The Mental Health Associate will assist a licensed healthcare provider in the delivery of patient care to adult patients with a primary psychiatric diagnosis. Duties include providing age‑appropriate and specific needs, treatment services, and related tasks such as obtaining vital signs and assisting with activities of daily living.
The Associate provides direct patient care by planning, organizing, and implementing psychiatric rehabilitation activities, escorts patients to and from activities, screens and assists with basic assessment, documents patient behavior, supervises patients during treatment and support activities, and leads/co‑leads group activities.
- Assist a licensed healthcare provider in patient care for adults with primary psychiatric diagnoses.
- Provide age‑appropriate treatment services, including vital sign monitoring and assistance with ADLs.
- Plan, organize, and implement psychiatric rehabilitation activities.
- Escort patients to and from activities and screening points.
- Document and maintain records of patient behavior.
- Supervise patients during treatment/support activities and lead or co‑lead group activities.
- Implement hospital and departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to ensure a safe, therapeutic environment.
Regularly sit at a computer workstation for extended periods; perform repetitive motions such as typing; lift, push, or pull objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds; stand or walk with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally stand or walk with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; work in confined spaces; exposure to injury risk from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials;
exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, radiation, burns, cuts/punctures, blood‑borne or airborne pathogens, and/or combative/violent people.
Must work three 12.5‑hour shifts per week (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.). Will also be required to work some weekends and holidays.
Required Training and ExperienceNo experience required. Candidate should have competency in CPR and basic knowledge of abnormal vital sign parameters.

- Strong organizational, prioritization, and basic computer navigation skills.
- Working knowledge of the Internet.
- Previous healthcare experience.
- CPR certification.
- No supervisory responsibilities required.
