Job Summary

The University of Kentucky invites applications for an Assistant Professor regular title series (tenure-track) position in the College of Public Health, with expertise in research, teaching, and service in epidemiology and/or environmental health. Research activities are open to the specific focus of the candidate. Focus areas of particular interest include environmental epidemiology, cancer epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, substance use epidemiology, causal inference, and injury epidemiology.

The selected candidate will teach and mentor students in the College of Public Health at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This is a 12-month, full-time continuous appointment.

The individual in this position will be expected to develop and/or continue their own area of research and engage in collaborative research with other faculty from departments and research centers within the College and University. Other responsibilities include educational advising to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as serving on master's and doctoral committees. This position will require working relationships with faculty in other departments within the College and University, medical residents, and students.

The successful candidate will serve on appropriate committees and professional organizations on a regional or national level, along with appropriate College of Public Health, University and department committees.

Specific Responsibilities
  • The appointee will function as a full-time member of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, College of Public Health.
  • The appointee will have a primary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, College of Public Health.
  • The appointee will develop and maintain an active research program that focuses on determinants of disease or injury risk, outcomes, and public health.
  • The appointee will teach at least one course annually and contribute to other courses in the College of Public Health for the undergraduate or graduate programs.
  • The appointee will chair and serve as a member of graduate student committees.
  • The appointee will provide expertise and leadership for the department, college, university and greater community.

Qualifications
  • PhD, DrPH, or ScD in Epidemiology or Environmental Health or an equivalent, with a focus related to epidemiology and/or environmental health.
  • Demonstrated ability in research, teaching, and service.
  • Ability to relate with internal and external constituencies of the University involved in related disciplines.
  • Interpersonal skills in communicating with a wide variety of professionals within and outside the University.
  • A deep understanding of public health and ability to mentor students.
  • Must possess organizational skills necessary for leading and managing public health-focused research or projects.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Epidemiology or Environmental Health with a focus related to epidemiology and/or environmental health. Compensation will be competitive and aligned with the successful candidate's experience and the responsibilities associated with this position.
