The Engineering Manager directs the activities and personnel of an assigned engineering group. Major responsibilities of this group include:

  • Lexington Plant manufacturing support – provide technical support to Purchasing, Quality and Production departments for the manufacture of all Lexington built product.
  • Current Product – Oversee improvements, enhancements, features, and cost reduction projects of current products.
  • Customer Engineering Request and Special Quotes – evaluate special quotes for design, requirements, cost and feasibility. Oversee design and manufacture of special components and options to meet customer requests.
  • Aftermarket Support – technical support of aftermarket products and supplies for trucks.
  • Product Support- provide engineering support to address field issues for all products sold by Clark Material Handling Company (CMHC).

This position will oversee an Engineering Group that is responsible for designing and implementing changes in current or new products as requested by customers, CLARK groups, or others. It also maintains aftermarket support and provides Lexington with manufacturing support. The manager coordinates (and/or performs) the activities of the current product group with other CLARK departments to achieve efficient use of resources and ensure that objectives are met.

The incumbent is expected to stay abreast of advances in the field of engineering, the needs of the customer and the company, and maintain knowledge of both the company’s products and those of the competitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive instructions and specifications related to Manufacturing, Product Modification, Aftermarket designs, and others. Information may be conveyed through layouts, detail drawings, blueprints, sketches or by other means, verbal, written or other.
  • Review all work requests and assign projects to appropriate person or group. Evaluate requests for feasibility.
  • Forecast manpower, material and resource requirements. Schedule personnel and obtain resources as needed to accomplish project goals.
  • Oversee the creation and development of new and/or revised product designs.
  • Review and approve all work produced by engineers, including engineered drawings, calculations, BOM, and capacities. Assure that all work meets CLARK standards.
  • Review and approve all capacity and nameplate changes requested by dealer.
  • Oversee and coordinate building, ordering, installation, and testing of prototype parts and/or entire vehicles. Ensure that any tests are conducted, as needed.
  • Develop, track and maintain the departmental budget. Track expenditures to keep within budget.
  • Travel to others areas such as: vendors, customer sites, dealers, and other Clark operations throughout the world. Must be able to travel internationally.
  • Develop reports and information relating to projects, departmental status, and improvements by participating in meetings, written communication, and by other means.
  • Coordinate efforts with various departments and groups, both internal and external, to the company.

Such groups may include:

Marketing– to gain customer input, develop cost and pricing estimates.

Manufacturing– to implement changes, improve production efficiency and quality.

Vendors– to order parts, ensure quality supplies.

Purchasing– to obtain and order parts, determine component prices.

Customers– to improve customer satisfaction, gain input about customer needs.

Quality Assurance– to ensure product quality and trucks meet specifications.

Design Engineers– to develop design layouts and detailed drawings

Other Engineers– for assistance with design solutions, ensure design fit..

Test functions– to oversee test procedures and results and/or conduct the tests themselves.
