Senior Laboratory Geotechnical Engineer – Lexington, KY Overview
Stantec's Water Engineering Team is looking for a Senior Laboratory Geotechnical Engineer to support our soils and rock lab in Lexington, KY. The role involves a 50‑50 mix of laboratory operations and geotechnical field/infrastructure projects, with technical, managerial, administrative duties and collaboration with senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the engineering laboratory.
- Manage lab staff, ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated, and inventory is controlled.
- Coordinate with engineering teams on project scope, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Support project execution including scoping and execution of laboratory testing and preparation of deliverables.
- Lead a team performing advanced laboratory testing on soil, rock, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.
- Communicate with project managers and engineers on scope and schedule.
- Maintain laboratory certifications (CCRL, AMRL) and handle maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment.
- Mentor and train technical staff, conduct quality‑control reviews of laboratory testing and reporting.
- Innovate laboratory procedures and digital data‑collection processes.
- Evaluate testing rates, maintain laboratory financials, and promote safe work practices.
- Assist with other civil and geotechnical projects, including field investigations and basic calculations.
- Review borehole logs and laboratory data; support design, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.
- Participate in submittal reviews and contract clarifications during construction.
- Knowledge of soil, concrete, and other testing methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- Team player with strong independent work ethic.
- Initiative and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong focus on health and safety.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and rock testing methods.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Kentucky Professional Engineer (PE) license.
