Senior Laboratory Geotechnical Engineer – Lexington, KY Overview

Stantec's Water Engineering Team is looking for a Senior Laboratory Geotechnical Engineer to support our soils and rock lab in Lexington, KY. The role involves a 50‑50 mix of laboratory operations and geotechnical field/infrastructure projects, with technical, managerial, administrative duties and collaboration with senior engineers.

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the engineering laboratory.
• Manage lab staff, ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated, and inventory is controlled.
• Coordinate with engineering teams on project scope, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Support project execution including scoping and execution of laboratory testing and preparation of deliverables.
• Lead a team performing advanced laboratory testing on soil, rock, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.
• Communicate with project managers and engineers on scope and schedule.
• Maintain laboratory certifications (CCRL, AMRL) and handle maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment.
• Mentor and train technical staff, conduct quality‑control reviews of laboratory testing and reporting.
• Innovate laboratory procedures and digital data‑collection processes.
• Evaluate testing rates, maintain laboratory financials, and promote safe work practices.
• Assist with other civil and geotechnical projects, including field investigations and basic calculations.
• Review borehole logs and laboratory data; support design, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.
• Participate in submittal reviews and contract clarifications during construction.

• Knowledge of soil, concrete, and other testing methods.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and rock testing methods.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Kentucky Professional Engineer (PE) license.
