This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling complex activities related to the Substation portfolio of projects, including new builds, upgrades, maintenance, and capital improvements. The role supports construction planning, cost forecasting, project estimating, outage coordination, and documentation management for substation construction and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and analytical skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Substation Construction Manager, Project Managers, and Team Leads to support detailed project planning and execution.
- Obtain, evaluate, and maintain contractor pricing, labor, equipment, and schedule data for substation projects.
- Assist in developing project cost estimates and reviewing bills of material (BOMs) for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with substation design packages.
- Create, track, and manage work orders in the Work Management System (including outage-related and capital work orders).
- Prepare and maintain monthly cost forecasts and budget tracking for substation construction and maintenance activities.
- Distribute engineering drawings, specifications, relay settings, and design packages to Substation Construction and Inspection teams.
- Support resource leveling and the development of critical path schedules for outages, cutovers, equipment installations, and commissioning activities.
- Generate and submit weekly, monthly, and annual summary reports covering cost, schedule, scope, and contractor performance.
- Research, validate, and maintain key substation project data, including equipment status, outage windows, and construction progress.
- Perform benchmarking and data analysis to support process improvement, cost control, and schedule optimization.
- Compile data and provide timely responses to management and utility leadership inquiries.
- Support Substation Inspectors, Construction Coordinators, and Project Managers in maintaining accurate and up-to-date schedules.
- Assist with project close-out, ensuring all documentation, drawings, as-built records, test reports, and financial data are complete and properly archived.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Work Management Systems, Primavera P6, or similar project scheduling tools is a plus.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently while coordinating with multiple teams.
- Ability to interpret substation drawings, construction packages, and technical documents and collaborate effectively with engineering, construction, and operations teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Project Management.
- Prior experience supporting substation construction, outages, or capital programs preferred.
