Required Education

Master’s degree or higher in nursing, or Bachelor’s degree in nursing with 2 years of BSN‑prepared nursing experience within the last 5 years with evidence of competence in clinical area of teaching.

Required Related Experience

Two years of full‑time BSN‑prepared nursing employment or equivalent within the last 5 years with evidence of competence in clinical area.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Current unencumbered license or privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements

Moving while instructing and demonstrating skills to students, standing, walking and sitting for long periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and potential injuries from patients or instruments.

Job Summary

The part‑time Clinical Instructor for the University of Kentucky Bachelors of Nursing Program plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application for nursing students. This position involves interpreting the mission and aims of the College of Nursing to plan and deliver nursing care within healthcare agencies, serving as a role model, and maintaining current clinical competency and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Instruction and Supervision:
    Provide hands‑on clinical instruction and supervision to nursing students, ensuring safe patient care and facilitating learning through the nursing process and clinical judgment.
  • Student Orientation and Evaluation:
    Orient students to clinical settings, reinforce concepts from the BSN curriculum, help them develop professional skills, clinical reasoning, and effective communication. Plan and assign tasks and guide students in acquiring necessary nursing skills. Conduct evaluations weekly, at mid‑term, and at the end of the term, providing timely feedback.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    Work closely with course faculty, healthcare agency staff, and other faculty members to ensure effective clinical learning experiences. Serve as a positive liaison between the College of Nursing and healthcare agencies, maintaining open communication with stakeholders.
  • Professional Development:
    Attend mandatory orientation and training sessions; maintain compliance with clinical site requirements; participate in faculty meetings and ongoing program evaluation activities; provide updated professional portfolio annually.
