Job SummaryThis is a 12‑month, non‑tenure eligible Lecturer position with approximately 70% instruction, 25% administration, and 5% service. The successful candidate will employ high‑quality, high‑impact pedagogical approaches that lead to demonstrated outcomes in teaching, professional mentoring, and retention of undergraduate students. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.
ResponsibilitiesInstruction:
Primary responsibility for teaching courses associated with the new Agricultural Ecosystem Sciences (AES) undergraduate BS degree program. Teach all AES‑specific courses (Introduction, Field Experience, Research Experience and Experiential Learning, Capstone). Additional instructional duties include: a section of Issues in Agriculture, Food, and Environment; creation of two online asynchronous courses; and teaching two Plant and Soil Science courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Scholarly activities include course development, deployment of innovative teaching techniques, and publication of refereed articles related to pedagogy.
Administration:
Assist the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the first year, then serve in that role.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading annual program assessment
- Maintaining the AES curriculum
- Identifying and correcting curriculum and course‑scheduling issues
- Assisting with development of student learning outcomes for AES courses
- Supporting other administrative needs: serving as primary career and professional development mentor, developing and maintaining recruiting and outreach materials (newsletters, webpages, social media), assisting with prospective student visits, advising and growing participation in the Agronomy Club, tracking enrollment, alumni contacts, and professional outcomes
- Effective collaboration with various College and University groups
Service:
As a land‑grant university, expected service to department, college, university, professional society, and/or society at large.
Applicants must have earned a doctorate in agronomy or related fields.
Preference given to candidates with college or university teaching experience who value systems‑thinking, a priority area in the department and program. Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills is required. Additional qualifications include:
- Strong organizational skills
- Evidence of developing and delivering high‑quality, innovative and creative undergraduate instruction
- Experience mentoring undergraduates
- Strong commitment to student recruitment and retention
- Ability to work in collaborative, interdisciplinary environments that include other faculty, external stakeholders, and public, private, and government agencies
Rank:
Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with training and experience.
