Job Summary

To help special needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

Essential Job Functions
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of students.
  • Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through instruction and action.
  • Assesses students’ accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking all necessary precautions.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life, developing reasonable classroom rules, and maintaining order fairly.
  • Provides availability to students and parents for education‑related matters outside instructional hours when required.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and evaluates their performance with department heads.
  • Maintains and improves professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Demonstrates ability or willingness to communicate in more than one language at novice proficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree

Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for Special Education
