Job SummaryTo help special needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
Essential Job Functions- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the designated locations and times.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of students.
- Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through instruction and action.
- Assesses students’ accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses learning disabilities regularly, seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
- Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking all necessary precautions.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life, developing reasonable classroom rules, and maintaining order fairly.
- Provides availability to students and parents for education‑related matters outside instructional hours when required.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and evaluates their performance with department heads.
- Maintains and improves professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Demonstrates ability or willingness to communicate in more than one language at novice proficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular attendance.

Valid Kentucky Teaching Certification for Special Education
