Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements per VA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval determines the award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the announcement. Pending training or license completion may be tentatively selected, but hiring is delayed until all requirements are satisfied. Current VA physicians who met the previous qualification standard retain the basic occupation requirements.
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy. - Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine obtained from a VA-approved school in the year of completion.
- Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Residency training:
Completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification. - Approved residencies include ACGME-accredited programs, AOA-accredited programs, or non-U.S. residencies followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Resident physicians currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must hold a full license and may be appointed intermittently or on a fee-basis. They are not independent practitioners, but perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements:
Moderate lifting (15–44 lbs), moderate carrying (15–44 lbs), moderate pulling (up to 2–3 hours), pushing (up to 2–3 hours), reaching above shoulder, walking (up to 2–3 hours), standing (up to 6–8 hours), kneeling (up to 2–3 hours), repeated bending (up to 4–6 hours), rapid mental and muscular coordination, near vision (correctable), far vision (correctable), depth perception, color discrimination, hearing (earplug permitted). - Reference: VA Qualification Standards.
Duties
- This position offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
- Full-time Diagnostic Radiologist providing general and specialized diagnostic radiology services to VA patients, with privileges under VA HCS Lexington.
- Responsibilities include patient assessment, imaging interpretation and report generation for radiographs, CT, US, MRI, nuclear medicine, and other diagnostic procedures; participation in research; call sharing; potential clinical director assignment; protocol drafting; and compliance with VA Medical Staff Bylaws.
- Clinical duties will be scheduled Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with variable workload to maintain expected productivity.
- Benefits: 50–55 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, plus possible 5 days CME), traditional federal pension (5-year vesting), federal 401(k) with up to 5% employer match, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care, and liability protection with tail coverage.
- Licensure:
One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. CME reimbursement potential $1,000 per year for full-time board-certified radiologists. - Willing to serve as clinical director of a section of radiology if needed and participate in research activity.
