Overview

Producer: WTVQ ABC 36 NEWS NOW in Lexington, Kentucky, is looking for a dynamic, creative, and motivated News Producer to join our growing team. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom environment, can craft engaging, viewer-focused newscasts, and understands how to tell stories across multiple platforms.

As a producer at ABC 36, you’ll have the opportunity to shape newscasts that matter to Central Kentucky viewers — with compelling local content, strong writing, and a clear, conversational delivery. You’ll work closely with anchors, reporters, and the assignment desk to build rundowns that are both informative and relevant to our audience.

Responsibilities
  • Produce engaging, well-structured newscasts with strong story flow and pacing
  • Source, select, and write local, regional, and national stories with accuracy and balance
  • Write crisp, conversational copy for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Coordinate live shots, graphics, video, and reporter elements under deadline pressure
  • Create and publish content for the  website and social media platforms
  • Collaborate with anchors, reporters, and management to develop story ideas and enterprise content
  • React quickly to breaking news and manage on-air coverage in real time
  • Maintain editorial integrity and adhere to newsroom and FCC guidelines
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 1–2 years of newsroom producing or related experience (college newsroom experience will be considered)
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to write clearly, conversationally, and under tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of ENPS, iNews, or similar newsroom systems preferred
  • Familiarity with posting and managing content across digital and social media platforms
  • Strong editorial judgment and an understanding of AP style and broadcast standards
  • A passion for local news and storytelling that connects with the community
