  • This position is not eligible for overtime (exempt); however, the city has a compensatory time leave program for employees that grants leave time for hours worked in excess of 40 hours.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to perform a lead role in managing the computer systems of a large public safety division to ensure continuous, mission‑critical operation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or another field related to the job
  • Six years of related information technology experience, in which at least three of those years must be in a related supervisory/management capacity
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience
  • Additional years of related experience may substitute for years of education
  • There are no substitutes for the required supervisory/management experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Evaluates current technologies/systems and develops, tests, installs, and/or implements new or improved systems
  • Manages and monitors computer and/or mobile data communication systems, software and networks; performs maintenance/updates as needed
  • Performs duties related to the assigned division, such as developing and maintaining GIS data or managing video/camera security
  • Develops and maintains professional working relationships with internal and external customers and service providers
  • Performs other administrative duties such as maintaining databases, creating reports, and documenting
  • May supervise the work of subordinates
  • Performs related work as assigned
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All positions require drug testing, background check and polygraph before employment and may require a post‑job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21‑14(b), 22‑13 and 23‑16.
